Iran female cineastes partake in Women’s Cinema Confab in US
Four Iranian female cineastes have participated in the Global Women’s Cinema Conference held at the Humanities Institute of the Stony Brook University in New York.
Fereshteh Taerpour (producer), Negar Azarbaijan (director), Niki Karimi (actress and director) and Ghazal Shakeri (actress) are Iranian representative at the gala.

Azarbayjani’s feature-length movie Facing Mirrors was screened at the conference kicked off on September 18.

The film, centered on the transgender issue, has received numerous international awards.

The three-day conference will also display Niki Karimi’s Final Whistle on September 20, last day of the event.

The conference has also hosted other participants from Italy, New Zealand, South Korea, Turkey, Canada, China, Germany and several other countries.

Renowned film scholars Jane Gaines from School of the Arts of the Columbia University, Richard Allen from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, along with Debra Zimmerman, director of the international distribution company of “Women Make Movies” delivered lectures at the conference.

The conference was held to bring together scholars and filmmakers from around the world to investigate the politics, aesthetics and economics of women’s cinema, focusing on the ways this cinema engages contemporary scenarios of global change.
