TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will leave Tehran for New York on September 22 to attend the 69th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, to which he will also deliver a speech.
President Rouhani will reportedly fly to the US after attending a military parade in Tehran, to be held on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week, which marks the onset of the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988).
It will be Rouhanis second presence in the UN since taking office in August 2013.
Back on Wednesday, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, spokesman for the Iranian administration, stressed that the president has not made any plan for a meeting with his US counterpart Barack Obama in New York.
What has focused further attention on Iran in this years UN General Assembly is the nuclear talks that Tehran is now holding with six world powers on the sidelines of the event.
The fresh round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) started this week with the aim of settling a decade-long standoff on Tehrans peaceful nuclear program.
The negotiations are expected to run until at least September 26 on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders at the UN.
In November 2013, Iran and world powers signed an interim deal in Geneva, which took effect on January 20 and expired six months later on July 20.
Back in July, Tehran and the G5+1 (alternatively known as the P5+1 or E3+3) agreed to extend negotiations until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal.
