Iran's electricity generation up

Tehran, Oct 9, IRNA - Iran has generated 166,239 gigawatt-hours of electricity since March 21, 2014.
The figure indicates a 7-percent growth compared with that of the corresponding period of last year, which was 155,363 gigawatt-hours.
In this period, 156,270 gigawatts-hours of the figure pertained to thermal power plants and 9,968.5 gigawatt-hours were generated by hydroelectric units.

The figures show power generation of thermal and hydroelectric power plants in the same duration increased by 7.11 percent and 5.22 percent respectively.

The electricity generation of thermal and hydroelectric units amounted to 145,896 gigawatt-hours and 9,473 gigawatt-hours in the year ending March 20, 2014.

In January, Homayoun Haeri, the managing director of Iran Power Generation Transmission & Distribution Management Company, said Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.

Haeri added that Irans total electricity generation currently stands at 70,000 megawatt-hour.

Irans total electricity supply in the said period was about 168,000 gigawatt-hours.
