TEHRAN Oct 22 (Shana)--Iran plans to increase the share of compressed natural gas (CNG) in its fuel mix to 30 percent, a senior official at National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company said.
Shahaboddin Metaji said 20 mcm of CNG, equivalent to 20 million liters of gasoline, is currently being consumed in the country.
He added that raising this amount to 25 mcm will give CNG a 30-percent share in Irans fuel mix. A group comprised of experts from NIORDC, National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), Iran Fuel Conservation Organization (IFCO) and Petroleum Ministry is studying the reasons behind low CNG consumption and development of its infrastructure, said Metaji.
He added that Iranians will show more inclination for CNG if cars are manufactured so as to burn gas.
