Minister: Ebola likely to enter Iran

Tehran, Oct 23, IRNA Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education Hassan Qazizadeh-Hashemi said on Thursday that since Ebola is likely to enter Iran, a special laboratory has been equipped to check the epidemic.
He told reporters on the sidelines of meeting of chancellors of medical sciences universities that the lab can be used for emergency screening.
Ebola has posed major public health challenge to the governments and Iran is relatively prepared to fight the disease.

He said that necessary measures have been taken since six months ago.

Asked about possibility of contamination to the virus by the Iranian Hajj pilgrims paying pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, Hashemi said that the Saudi government has set up screening at the airport, but, the disease is likely to enter Iran.

No case of Ebola has so far been observed in Iran, the minister said.
