UN envoy calls for international focus on President Rouhani proposal

Tehran, Oct 26, IRNA The UN resident coordinator in Iran Gary Lewis called for international focus on the proposal of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani concerning a world free of violence.
He made the remarks while talking to IRNA on Sunday prior to the visit of the UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson to Iran on October 26-30.
He said the proposed plan offered by the Iranian President is in compliance with the United Nations Charter.

He further expressed hope that the world countries would pay due attention to the plan.

He noted that the proposed plan which advocates a world free of violence and extremism stresses the mandate of the global organization that entails spread of peace in the world.

As to Iran's UN history, he said Tehran became a member of the United Nations in 1945 when the organization was first established.

He pointed out that the international organization has been operating in Iran since then, adding that it currently has 18 offices working here in such areas as education, poverty elimination, healthcare and environment.
