Pakistani petroleum minister departs for Tehran

Islamabad, Oct 27, IRNA - Pakistans Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi departed Islamabad for Tehran on Monday.
He is scheduled to meet senior Iranian officials over the import of energy including electricity and gas from Iran.
Accomplishment of the under-construction multi-billion-dollar Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline projected to carry natural gas from Iran to its energy hungry Eastern neighbor is the most important topic of Pakistani minister's discussions with Iranian officials.

Abbassi is scheduled to meet his Iranian counterpart Bijan Namdar Zanganeh on Tuesday.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour is in Pakistan for an official one day visit to confer latest regional and international developments with the Pakistani officials.

Iran-Pakistan gasline project is due to take Irans rich gas reserves to the South Asian nation.

The 2700-kilometer long pipeline was to supply gas for Pakistan and India which are suffering a lack of energy sources, but India has evaded talks. In 2011, Iran and Pakistan declared they would finalize the agreement bilaterally if India continued to be absent in the meeting.

Iran has already constructed more than 900 kilometers of the pipeline on its soil.
