Irans share in halal market meager
Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA Secretary General of the Halal World Institute Abdol-Hossein Fakhari here on Friday put the turnover of liquidity of this type of food in the Muslim world markets at $2 thousand billion adding that Irans share of the market is only 5 to 6 billion dollars.
Speaking to IRNA, he stressed on increase in Irans share of the market and said while Iran possesses special capacities for production of halal food among world countries, Malaysia with 47% of non-Muslim population who hold possession of most foodstuff factories has the largest share in this market.
Iran is the only country where 99% of the population is Muslim and 100% of foodstuffs are halal.

He said if Iran can afford holding only 10% of the food turnover in the halal market about $200 billion will be earned while it will bring about strong employment and economic prosperity to the country as well.

Fakhari pointed to the production of halal food as an economic priority of the country and said such a priority should be considered as one of the export indices in the country.

He referred to lack of payment of export incentives as the main reason for Irans absence in the markets trading halal products.

The official further remarked that halal food standard of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was signed by ministers of member countries in October 2010 and now this standard sets the criterion for halal products.

As for the issue of halal tourism, he said one of the services of the World Halal Institute is halal tourism which guarantees a convenient stay for Muslims during their visits on the basis of beliefs of their faith.

He pointed to hotels and lodgings, restaurants, fast foods and prayer services as being among halal tourism services, adding that economic corporations should equip their centers with halal logo in order to attract tourists.

Fakhari said recently medicine, cosmetics and sanitary products have entered the halal cycle and attracted the attention of economists so that countries try to gain a share of the market.

He said according to the revelation of the verse of Quran in relation with halal food on 17th day of Ramazan (falling on July 15 this year) the day is named the World Halal Day which was marked in Iran at Milad Tower of Tehran this year.
