Tehran, Dec 16, IRNA First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri on Tuesday officially welcomed Prime Minister of Syria Wael Nader Al-Halqi at Sadabad Cultural Complex in northern Tehran.
Al-Halqi arrived in the Iranian capital Monday afternoon on a three-day visit to discuss major bilateral, regional and international issues with senior Iranian officials.
The Syrian official is accompanied by the countrys health, industries, power and oil ministers.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tehran, Al-Halqi who is on his second visit to Iran since last year, expressed hope that the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the world six big powers would have fruitful results.
Nuclear talks have resumed between Iranian officials and their negotiating partners from US in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi and Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American Affairs Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi are leading the Iranian delegation in this round of talks while the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman is representing Washington.
Last round of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany) ended in Vienna, Austria, on November 24 which was set as the deadline to reach a final comprehensive agreement. However, the two sides failed to make a final deal on that time. Therefore, they decided to extend the talks for another seven months (July 1, 2015).
