TEHRAN Dec 22 (Shana)--The sweetening capacity of the refinery of Phase 12 of the giant offshore South Pars gas field has crossed 70 mcm, the official in charge of Phase 12 development said.
Rasoul Fallahnejad said the sixth train of sweetening in this refinery is to come on-stream in February.
He added that the refinery is currently producing up to 60 mcm/d of gas due to shortage of feedstock. Fallahnejad said Platform 12B is expected to raise its gas production to 500 mcf/d soon.
Phase 12 is expected to feed 81 mcm/d of sweet gas into gas trunklines once its fourth platform has been constructed. Phase 12 is the main phase of South Pars gas field, an offshore reservoir shared by Iran and Qatar.
South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Irans territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatars territorial waters. The gas field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the worlds reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
