Official calls for settlement of Arvand Free Zone, Shalamcheh border disputes

Abadan, Khuzestan Prov., Dec 31, IRNA Head of IRI Customs Administration Masoud Karbasian stressed on the settlement of disputes between Arvand Free Zone and Shalamcheh border terminal on the management and sovereignty of the zone.
Inspecting the passenger and export terminal at Shalamcheh border on Wednesday, he said if the zone is developed the share of the country and Khuzestan Province in sustainable development will increase.
He also stressed on structural and quality promotion of customs services of Shalamcheh as an incoming and outgoing border in the country and called for improvement of services for tradesmen, passengers and pilgrims transporting the border.

Criticizing some trends in the export of commodities and administrative mechanisms in the release and export of goods in the border he said the condition of the terminal with regard to export and import of commodities is not proper with regard to the bright record of Abadan and Khorramshahr.

Karbasian also called for dissemination of information to Iraqi businessmen concerning services that are being offered at Shalamcheh customs department.

Appreciating the efforts of the customs staff in Khorramshahr and Shalamcheh border terminal he talked with a number of Iranian and Iraqi drivers and businessmen and promised them to solve their problems.

Meanwhile, Governor of Khorramshahr Valiollah Hayati said four thousand passengers and pilgrims transit Shalamcheh border terminal on daily basis, adding that the number will increase considerably on religious occasions.

Referring to the submerge of 59 ships in the Arvand Roud as a reason for lack of prosperity of the Khorramshahr Port, the governor said through efforts taken some of the ships have been repaired and some others are still under water.

He said in the case of implementation of the agreements reached with regard to dredging of Arvand Roud, passage of larger ships will become possible in this area.
