Iran generates over 220,000 GWh of electricity in nine months

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's thermal and hydroelectric power plants generated 220,364 Gigawatt-Hours (GWh) of electricity in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 22).
The generated electricity over the period showed 5.74 percent growth comparing to similar period past year.

The thermal power plants produced 208,532 GWh and hydropower plants made 11,840 GWh for the country over the period.

The thermal power plants' generation rose by 6.2 percent comparing to similar period last year.

Iran has constructed power plants twice as many as the average number of power plants constructed in the world during the past decade.

The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by 7 percent annually during the past 10 years.

Iran currently swaps power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan (including Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic), Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1bln in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
