A Separation among world top 50 films
TEHRAN, Jan. 07 (MNA) The Guardian's film critic put two Iranian films in his list of top 50 films of the demi-decade.
In an article published yesterday, the Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw shortlisted Irans Oscar winnerA Separation and This Is Not a Film as two of his 50 top films in the past five years.


In midway through the 2010s, Peter Bradshaw picked his top films of the demi-decades with two Iranian movies, A Separation directed by Asghar Farhadi and This Is Not a Film by Jafar Panahi present in his list.








Bradshaw believes that Asghar Farhadi, with his drama, established himself as an author in the tradition of Antonioni and Haneke and his film looks increasingly like a classic. When an unhappy couple break up, the fracture exposes the fault-lines of Iranian society, he describes the film.


A 2011 drama film written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, A separation narrates the story of a married couple who are faced with a difficult decision - to seek a possible better life for their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a father who deterioratingly suffers from Alzheimer's disease.


A Separation won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 and became the first Iranian film to win the award. Golden Bear for Best Film and the Silver Bears for Best Actress and Best Actor at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, Golden Bear for the first Iranian film and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film are among the awards, Asghar Farhadis movie won. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and became the first non-English film in five years to achieve this.


This Is Not a Film directed by Jafar Panahi is another film picked by Bradshaw as one of 50 top movies published in the Guardian.


Peter Bradshaw, a well-known British writer and film critic, is famous for Coffee and Cake (2014), Baddiel's Syndrome (2001) and Film 2015 (1971).
