File photo shows Iran's domestically-developed fighter jet, Saeqeh.[/caption]The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) has started the mass production of the indigenous Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jets.
A spokesman for the IRIAF announced on Wednesday that the indigenously developed fighter jet has already gone through mass production.
Brigadier General Hossein Chitforoush said the IRIAF has built squadrons of Saeqeh and they are going through their evolutionary process.
Chitforoush said the fighter is continuously conducting reconnaissance missions across Iran.
Noting that the new fighter jet will bring Iran to the level of self-sufficiency in the field, he added that IRIAF will upgrade the bomber in case the needs of the armed forces change in future.
Saeqeh was unveiled as a prototype in 2004 and later became operational in 2006. The jet is Irans second domestically-developed fighter with many calling it the Iranian F-18.
The bomber has the ability to track down enemy aircraft, engage in combat, target locations on the ground, and carry a load of assorted weapons and ammunition.
In the recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.
The country has repeatedly announced that its defense might does not pose any threat to other countries as Iran's defense doctrine is totally based on deterrence.
