Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu praised the rally against terror in Paris, adding that he would expect a similar reaction to attacks on Muslims and Islamophobia.
MOSCOW, January 12 (Sputnik) Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu praised the extraordinary rally againstterror inParis asa strong message tothe world, adding he would expect a similar reaction toattacks onMuslims and Islamophobia, reports AFP.
For Turkey the attendance ofDavutoglu, one ofthe top Muslim leaders atthe rally, was seen ashugely symbolic gesture considering that Charlie Hebdo had often ridiculed the Prophet Mohammed.
It is a message tothe whole world that everyone must confront the threat ofterror, Davutoglu told reporters atthe Turkish embassy inParis intelevised comments, asreported byAFP.
We would expect the same sensitivities tobe shown toattacks onmosque or Islamophobia, he added afterattending the rally which got together overa million people inParis alone.
Davutoglu praised a comment byFrench President Francois Hollande that these fanatics (who carried outthe attacks) have nothing todo withMuslim religion asbeing ofthe utmost importance.
He noted that the attackers had not grown upin Muslim countries but in Paris and it was this environment that should be examined. He also added that Turkey has similar values asfar aseradicating terror is concerned and there should be no double standards.
Davutoglus attendance atthe rally received some criticism onsocial media withcritics saying Turkeys record onpress freedom meant his attendance was far fromwelcome, reports AFP.
