New round of Iran nuclear talks to take place in February

The head of Chinese delegation at the P5+1, Tehran negotiations on Iranian nuclear program said the next round of talks was expected to be held in the beginning of February.
GENEVA, January 18 (Sputnik) A new roundof P5+1 group ofinternational mediators withTehran onIranian nuclear programwill be held inthe beginning ofFebruary, head ofChinese delegation said Sunday.

This roundof talks was very serious, deep and pragmatic. The next roundof talks is expected tobe held inthe beginning ofnext month, butthe place is not agreed yet, Wang Qun told journalists.

At the same time, a source inthe Iranian delegation, who wished toremain anonymous, told RIA Novosti that the next roundof talks might be held inanother place, instead ofGeneva.

I do not think that the next roundof talks will be held inGeneva, the source said.

When commenting onthe most recent P5+1 talks withTehran, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the consultations were very helpful, adding that the discussions will continue soon.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi shared similar opinion, saying that the latest roundof talks useful.

We have discussed all issues. These talks were serious and useful. We decided tocontinue discussion inthe beginning ofFebruary. The exact date and time will be set inthe nearestfuture, he said.

However, head ofthe French delegation Nicolas de Rivere argued that the sides did not manage toreach a significant progress.

I do not think that we have reached a significant progress, de Rivere said Sunday, followingthe talks.

The P5+1 group ofsix world powers, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, joined diplomatic efforts back in2006 inan attempt toreach a deal withthe Tehran authorities, assuring the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program. Since then, the group has held several meetings withIran, butthe sides failed toreach a compromise.

In November 2014, the sides agreed tocontinue the discussions untilJuly 2015.
