Iran's handicrafts, global potential that needs more attention

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA- Deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Bahman Namvar Motlaq says Iran is one of the top three countries in the world to produce qualified handicrafts and yet is ranked 30th in trading and exportation.
While visiting a Kilim-making workshop in Sirjan, Kerman province on sunday, he said Iran's handicraft exportation has grown up to 31% compared to last year.
He noted that although the handicraft-making workshops have been inactive in the past few years, they managed to enjoy a 25% growth this year.

He reiterated that the handicraft industry in Iran has always stood out in the world and Tehran is hopeful to overcome the current crisis in the industry and reach that point again.

Namvar Motlaq further underlined the need to support those active in the industry.

He stressed that the artistic potential of this region will become a remarkable example in the industry.
