Zahedan, Feb 1, IRNA Some 997 kilograms of opium was seized in two separate operations in of Sistan-Baluchestan province, Provincial Commander of Sistan-Baluchestan Police said on Sunday.
Lieutenant-Brigadier Hossein Rahimi said that police carried operations to seize the contraband upon a tip-off.
He said that several armed drug-traffickers were involved in transfer of remarkable amount of narcotics from Saravan to Zahedan using a Toyota vehicle.
Following widescale specialized measures, they identified the traffickers' automobile on Jounabad-Zahedan Road, the commander said.
The forces ordered the vehicle to stop but they ignored the order and fled away while they were shooting at the police, he said.
The police pursued them and managed to stop Toyota and arrest three smugglers, he said, noting that while inspecting the automobile, they found out 780 kilograms of opium.
Meanwhile, after Sarvan Police got a tip-off that the death merchants intend to store narcotics in Lad Heights, they carried surveillance on the site and seized 217 kilograms opium.
