TEHRAN, Feb. 04 (MNA) The head of Irans parliament energy commission nuclear committee has said efforts in the parliament are intended to support negotiators and neutralizing US Congress threats.Ebrahim Karkhanei told Mehr News Parliament correspondent that adopting a bill in the Parliament which required the government to maintain nuclear achievements was a retaliation of US Congress in setting deadline for nuclear negotiators to give in to their demands when necessary, and to add to list of sanctions if Iranian negotiators acted otherwise.
Congress has threatened our nuclear negotiators, inflicting psychological pressure on the negotiations through adopting new sanction bills, Karkhanei added, who represents Hamadan and Famenein constituency in the parliament.
The Congress bills seeks to realize the illegitimate demands of the west and the US; we believe that the Parliament should play a more decisive role in the nuclear negotiations by virtue of its inherent responsibility to protect the national interests, he emphasized, quoting Barack Obama who had said that if Iran remained intransigent in its position, he would be the first person to support new sanctions in the Congress to be passed, a thing Karkhanei believed indicated complete harmony between the White House and the Congress, despite their purported conflict over Irans nuclear issue.
It is therefore imperative that Parliament interfere in the negotiations process; the adoption of the bill was based on this premise; the bill will be in the relevant commission and will return to the open session of the Parliament, he emphasized.
About highly disputed Zarif-Kerry walking in Geneva streets on the sidelines of nuclear talks, Karkhanei said that smiles and walking were diplomatic tools which conveyed certain messages in direct talks; the negotiators should know that negotiations should guarantee nations rights, one of them being removal of sanctions, he concluded.
