TEHRAN (Tasnim) Foreign guests who are in Iran to take part in the celebrations and rallies on the anniversary of the victory of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, attended a congress in Tehran on Tuesday to hold talks.

The international congress for consultation among the foreign guests kicked off on Tuesday morning, a day before February 11, a national holiday in Iran which is celebrated each year with nationwide mass rallies in commemoration of the Islamic Revolution victory in 1979.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Ali Akbar Velayati, a former foreign minister and renowned politician, delivered speeches to the congress.

Every year, many foreign guests, including politicians and reporters gather in Iran on the anniversary of the Revolution victory.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 35 years ago, on February 11, 1979, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The revolution, spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

On February 11 each year, Iranian people pour into the streets in their millions to commemorate the great victory of the Islamic Revolution.
