Lindsey Graham is warning that two current foreign policy concerns might just intersect as the United States negotiates with Iran over its nuclear program.
Appearing Wednesday on CNN's"The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,"Graham reiterated his longstanding warning against the White House's negotiations to allow Iran to continue its nuclear program as long as it isn't used to make weapons. Graham and other Republicans don't believe the Iranians are acting in good faith.
And he told CNN that the Iranians have good reason to believe the United States won't do anything to stop them if they violate an agreement.
Pointing to the current peace talks between Ukraine and Russian-backed separatists, Graham noted that the United States, Russia and other countries signed a memorandum in the 1990s that Ukraine would be protected if it agreed to give its nuclear arsenal to Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union.
Now, America is offering only food and other non-lethal aid to the Ukrainians as they fight off the Russian-backed troops.
"What do you think the Iranians are thinking right now?" Graham asked. "Looking at the West, given the deal we have done with the Ukraine, don't you think the ayatollahs are thinking, no matter what I sign, if I break it, they're not going to anything about it?"
