TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researchers have managed to design a new nano-drug for treating breast cancer.
The nano-drug is made up of biocompatible and biodegradable polymers which reduces toxicity of anti-cancer drugs.
Farid Abedin, a faculty member of Tehran Medical Sciences University and lead author of the study, said, a micellar system has been made in the research, using biocompatible and biodegradable polymers which is composed of hyaluronic acid and phospholipids. It sends drug to low-dissolved material and its physical and chemical properties have been investigated.
The micellar system have been used to send taxol to intended spots for treating breast cancer in animal phases.
The nano-drug performed well in healing breast tumors in animals, he said, adding the results suggest that the product can also reduce the side effects and increase taxol dissolution.
It also created less side effects and performed better comparing to free release method.
The results of the study have been published in ?Applied Polymer Science Journal.
