Iran's Judiciary Chief, Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani[/caption]Tehran, Mach 1, IRNA - Head of the Judiciary Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani on Sunday condoled with his Afghan counterpart Abdul Salam Azimi on recent avalanche that has claimed above 200 lives.
In a message, Larijani expressed sympathy with neighboring Afghanistan's government and nation, and especially the bereaved family members of the avalanche victims, praying to God for the salvation of the soles of their beloved ones.
More than 200 people have been confirmed dead in a recent series of avalanches in Panjshir, northeast of Kabul, a dramatic rise in the death toll as officials continue search for missing people.
Panjshir, around 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of the capital, Kabul, has been the most affected area with most of the people trapped in the mountainous valley.
Afghanistan is highly vulnerable to various kinds of natural disasters, affecting the lives of thousands of people every year.
Deadly avalanches are also common in Afghanistans mountainous areas, where there is lack of infrastructure as well as environmental degradation aggravating the impact of heavy snow.
