Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit Iran.
In anticipation of this momentous event, "Vestnik Kavkaza" spoke with deputy of the State Duma Leonid Slutsky and Senator Igor Morozov about the current state of relations between the two countries, as well as possible goals and objectives of the upcoming visit of Putin to Tehran.
Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Slutsky said that "Iran is our important partner in the region." "This country is large, special, it is a "fuzzy" country meaning that its leadership often acts independently, and does not always discuss its decisions with international institutions. But Russia and Iran have close relations", he said.
"Iran is an important partner of all countries in the Caspian region, including Russia," Slutsky said.
Leonid Slutsky said that the forthcoming visit of Vladimir Putin will be very timely.
A member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, a senator from the Ryazan region, Igor Morozov talked about the support provided by the Russian Federation to Iran during the negotiations on the nuclear program of Iran.
The senator believes that the two countries "have a lot of topics to discuss ranging from energy and ending with the nuclear program," he said, adding that Vladimir Putin will discuss trade and economic relations with the leadership of Iran.
