Speaker of the US House of Representatives John Boehner has blasted President Barack Obama for showing animosity towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his recent visit.

�I think the animosity exhibited by our administration toward the prime minister of Israel is reprehensible,� Boehner told CNN on Sunday.

"I think that the pressure that they've put on him over the last four or five years has, frankly, pushed him to the point where he had to speak up. I don't blame him at all for speaking up," he added.

Earlier this month, Netanyahu who was invited by Boehner to Washington DC delivered a speech against a potential Iran�s nuclear agreement at Congress.

The address, which was scolded by the White House and congressional Democrats, came in the midst of a crucial stage in nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group � the US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

President Obama refused to meet the Israeli leader after the invitation was not consulted with the White House.

Last week, Boehner�s spokesman Kevin Smith said the speaker plans to visit Israel.

The visit will follow Netanyahu�s victory in parliamentary elections.

Speaker Boehner said the trip to Israel was planned months ago, adding that �it's not quite what I would describe as a victory lap.�

Boehner�s travel to Israel will begin March 31 and he will be leading a delegation of Republican lawmakers.
