Kuala Lumpur, March 30, IRNA A member of the Iranian delegation attending the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Hanoi, Vietnam on Monday called for restructuring the United Nations Organization.
Iranian lawmaker Javad Jahangirzadeh, who is a member of IPU-UN Relations Committee, made a speech on shortcomings of UN and called for making reforms in the international body after 70 years of its operation.
He said there is a consensus in all parliaments of the world that UN and especially its Security Council should be restructured.
The Iranian parliamentarian added veto right in the UN Security Council, wielding it in favor of big powers and depriving many countries of having any influence on international affairs is not fair and should change.
Jahangirzadeh was elected as permanent member of IPU-UN Relations Committee in IPU's last year session in Geneva.
The most important challenges of the world such as terrorism, extremism, water shortage, the environment and climate change, cyber war, millennium development goals (MDGs), AIDS and other contagious diseases as well as problems of international organizations such as the United Nations are being discussed in 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly being held in Hanoi.
A delegation consisting of nine lawmakers is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hanoi meeting.
