BAKU, December 27 (RIA Novosti) - Agents of Azerbaijans National Security Ministry have seized 19.3 kilograms of opium resin smuggled in from Iran, the ministry press service said on Thursday.
An Azerbaijani national was arrested as he picked up the drugs from a cache where they had been deposited by an unidentified Iranian, presumably a member of a drug trafficking ring.
A criminal case has been opened on charges of drug trafficking as part of an organized group, as well as acquisition, transportation, storage and circulation of narcotic substances.
A court ordered the detainee to be put into custody pending trial.
The ministry did not say when the operation took place.
