Iran enjoys sustainable security in borders: Commander

Qasr-e Shirin, Kermanshah Prov, March 31, IRNA -- Commander of Irans Border Guards Brigadier General Qasem Rezaei said the country enjoys sustainable security along its borders thanks to endeavors by the Iranian border guards.

Visiting a border point in Qasr-e Shirin in the western Iranian province on Monay, the commander said proper security is also provided along the eastern border lines although the neighboring state of Pakistan suffers from the security problems.

There are expectations from the eastern neighbors of Pakistan and Afghanistan, said the commander hoping Iran will improve security in the eastern border lines.

He added there are sustainable security in the north, west and south of the country including the sea borders.

About Iraq and its borderlines with Iran, the commander said that the neighboring country is not safe these days due to plots made by the arrogant powers against the country.

He then expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of the five border guards in this western region due to explosion of mine planted during eight year of Iraqi imposed war on Iran and condoled their bereaving families.

This western Iranian region has been polluted by different landmines since Iran-Iraq war.

The guards were patrolling the area in a military vehicle when it hit the mine, he said.

Ghasre-Shirin in west of Kermanshah province with a population of over 27,000 was under occupation of Iraqi forces during the imposed war.

Landmines and explosive devices remaining in the area from the 1980-1988 war with Iraq largely affect Iran's western and southwestern provinces where most of the operations were concentrated and, according to estimates, some 12,800 square kilometers are still contaminated by unexploded mines.
