Irans FM renews call for ceasefire in Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated the call for a halt to Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen, urging intra-Yemeni dialog to settle the conflicts.

In a message posted on his Twitter account on Friday, Zarif also called for the delivery of humanitarian aids to Yemen in the wake of the deadly Saudi military campaign.

War on Yemen must be stopped. We urge ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, intra-Yemeni dialogue and establishment of broad-based government, the top Iranian diplomat said.

The call for an end to the war comes as two weeks of relentless air strikes by the Saudis and its Arab allies have killed more than 800 people and injured more than 1,200 others in Yemen.

The Saudi-led coalition, including military forces from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Sudan, Bahrain, Morocco, Jordan, and Egypt on March 26 began to attack Yemens Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Meanwhile, a US official has revealed that Washington is expanding its intelligence-sharing with Saudi Arabia to provide more information about potential targets in the kingdom's air campaign against Yemen.

"We have opened up the aperture a bit wider with what we are sharing with our Saudi partners," Reuters quoted one US official as saying.
