TEHRAN (FNA)- Senior Iranian and Spanish officials will discuss and coordinate efforts to fight extremism in the region, specially the ISIL crimes in North Africa.
"In meetings with the Spanish officials, we will hold talks about those countries that are located in areas near the Middle-East region and have concerns about ISIL extremism in North Africa," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said upon arrival at Madrid's airport on Tuesday morning.
"There are highly important issues in the region, specially Yemen, and other worrying issues in the region which have resulted from the spread and presence of extremist elements in the region and are the common problems of the regional countries and other members of the international community," he said.
Zarif also referred to the economic relations between Tehran and Madrid, and said the Spanish officials discussed possible "grounds for resumption and expansion of economic ties during their Iran trip and now we will discuss and study those cases during this visit".
During his trip to Spain, Zarif will confer with the country's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, Parliament Speaker Jesus Posada, and Minister of Economy Luis de Guindos.
He is also scheduled to address foreign ambassadors in Madrid.
Zarif will also address Spanish political, economic, and media elites as well as the diplomatic corps in Madrid at America House.
