German chancellor, Indian PM hail 'important' Lausanne accord

Berlin, April 14, IRNA -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel and visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated their support for the Lausanne accord, calling it 'important'.

Talking at a joint news conference in Berlin on Tuesday, Merkel stressed the Lausanne framework was 'an important step', saying it was the basis for a final nuclear accord.

Meanwhile, the Indian prime minister praised also the successful outcome of the Lausanne negotiations.

I am glad that the talks were successful. That will impact positively on the security atmosphere in the region, Modi said.

Germany has earlier expressed cautious optimism that a final comprehensive nuclear agreement could be reached by the end of June deadline.
