Terrorism major threat to world peace, security: Iranian deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian deputy foreign minister expressed deep concern over the spread of terrorism across the world, saying that the phenomenon has become a major threat to international peace.







Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the 60th Asian-African Conference in Jakarta on Monday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asian and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour highlighted the challenges facing Asian and African countries, including the threat posed by terrorism and extremism.

He described extremism and terrorism as "a major threat" to the establishment of peace and security in the world, especially in Asia and Africa.

Rahimpour also stressed the need for world countries to boost cooperation and promote the spirit of tolerance and pluralism as well as respect for different opinions and beliefs.

In commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference and 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership, Indonesia planned a series of high level events under the theme of "Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity" in Jakarta and Bandung on April 19-24, 2015.

Delegates from 109 Asian and African countries, 16 observer countries, and 25 international organizations have been invited to participate in the events.
