India building fertilizer factory in Chabahar

Chabahar, April 24, IRNA -- Indian Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar said on Friday that the country has made up its mind to set up urea fertilizer factory in Chabahar to meet its demands.

Addressing Rajya Sabha on Friday, he added that the government will carry out necessary measures for construction of a 1.3-ton urea factory in Iran.

The project is currently being discussed to find an Iranian partner for the joint undertaking, he said, noting that India imports as much as eight million tons of its 30 million tons of urea needs each year.

Iran and India have been in talks since 2013 over the project but they were halted due to dispute over price of gas supply for the factory.

Construction of the factory in Iranian territory will cost India $800 million.

Iran's Ambassador to India Gholamreza Ansari earlier held talks with Kumar over mutual cooperation for establishing urea factory in Iran.
