At least seven people have been killed in a car bomb attack in a southwestern neighborhood of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
Iraqi officials confirmed Monday that at least seven people, all of them civilians, were killed after a car bomb went off in Baghdads Bayaa district.
The attack took place in a busy commercial area where the explosives-laden vehicle was parked. At least 16 other people, many of them had gathered in a real estate office near the scene of bombing, were wounded.
Medical sources have confirmed the casualties of the bombing, which is the latest in the string of attacks targeting Baghdads citizens.
In four separate explosions on Sunday, at least 13 civilians were killed and dozens of others were injured in various parts of the city. Two were killed and five were wounded in Bayaa district alone.
The attacks, mostly blamed on the ISIL Takfiri group, are mainly meant to undermine the Iraqi governments ongoing battle against the terrorists in north and west of the country.
After purging the terrorists from the northern city of Tikrit, the Iraqi army and volunteer forces are now aiming to dislodge the terrorists from the western Anbar Province before waging a final battle against ISIL in its major stronghold in Mosul, north of the country.
Earlier in the day, government forces reportedly made considerable gains in a large area in the town of Karmah located between the capital Baghdad and the city of Fallujah, which remains an ISIL stronghold in Anbar province.
