TEHRAN May 13(Shana)--Iranian president Hassan Rouhani underlined the necessity of boosting cooperation with Iraq on a vast spectrum of bilateral issues including transportation, energy, oil industry and agriculture.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Foad Masum in Tehran, Rouhani said Iran and Iraq have common or close views on many issues, adding the neighboring countrys stability and security is very important for Tehran.
He added that he held talks with his Iraqi counterpart about security and stability in the neighboring country, noting Iran has proved its commitment to security in Iraq over the past months through close cooperation with Baghdad.
Rouhani went on to say that the two sides also held talks on boosting cooperation in a variety of economic issues like interlinking railways and highways of the two countries in a way that facilitates transportation and travels as well as boosting cooperation in energy, oil, gas and agriculture.
Referring to the importance of protecting the environment, the president said environmental issues and dust storms which have created problems for both countries were the other topics on the agenda.
Iraqi president, for his part, thanked Iran officials for hospitality, expressing satisfaction with the result of negotiations about mutually interested issues.
He also supported the ongoing negotiation between Iran and 5+1 powers.I am convinced that the entire region and those who are interested in peace and security all over the world will benefit from the successful result of nuclear negotiations, he said.
He concluded that no country should be fearful of the results of the negotiations.
The Iraqi president arrived at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation that includes tourism, environment and trade ministers.
