'Enemy failing to sow ethnic discord in Kurdistan'

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the enemy has failed in its attempts to create ethnic and religious discord in theKurdistan region.

The remarks were part of the Leader's written statements read out at acongress commemorating Muslim Kurdish Peshmerga martyrs which was heldMondayin the city of Sanandaj, the capital of western Iranian Kurdistan province.

In his statements, the Leader underlined that enemy conspiracies to cash in on ethnicity and religion to make the Kurdistan region insecure have been to no avail.

Ayatollah Khamenei said in his comments that anti-revolutionary elements spared noeffort to foment insecurity in Kurdistan in the early years following the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran, but Muslim Kurds put their lives on the line to keep the enemy at bay.

The Leader also appreciated the sacrifices made by Muslim Peshmerga Kurds to counter the enemy.

The enemy will not sit idly by, and will, as much as it can, use the many security, propaganda and financial tools in its possession to bear animosity, the Leaders statements read.

The enemy seeks to fuel religious divisions and to drive a wedge between Shias and Sunnis, read the Leaders statements, which also highlighted that some individuals fall for enemy conspiracies out of ignorance.

The Leader further urged vigilance against the enemys divisive plots.

In his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei said Britain is an old hand at creating rifts between Shias and Sunnis, and referring to a US Congress motion which, under the guise of supporting Sunnis, seeks to bypass the Iraqi central government, asked: Are they really interested in [supporting] Sunnis?

They are against anything which has a sign of Islam, and to them, there is no difference between Shias and Sunnis, and issues such as religion and ethnicity are just a pretext for them to sow discord, read the Leaders statements.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the enemy should not be allowed to take advantage of such excuses.
