Iran backing Iraq anti-terror bid with all might: Official

A senior Iranian official says the Islamic Republic supports Iraq in its battle against terrorism with all might.

Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Secretary General of Iraqs Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party (KSDP) Muhammad Haji Mahmoud on Sunday, where the two officials exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq and the region.

The Islamic Republic of Iran believesan integrated, unitedand strong Iraq guarantees the interestsof all ethnic groupsand tribes inthe country in line withregionalinterests, Amir-Abdollahian said.

He further expressed hope that the Iraqi nation and government would soon root out the menace of ISIL Takfiri terrorists in the country by relying on domesticpotentialand through unity and solidarity.

The Iraqi Kurdish official, for his part, praised Irans all-out support for the Iraqi nation and government in their fight against terrorist groups.

He further voiced concern over continued foreign support for ISIL terrorists, who are currently wreaking havoc in Iraq and Syria.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been in chaos since ISIL started its campaign of terror in early June 2014. The terrorists are in control of the city of Mosul, the second largest city of Iraq.

Since then, Iraqs army has been joined by Kurdish forces, and Shia and Sunni volunteers in operations to drive the ISIL terrorists out of the areas they have seized.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that it will not interfere militarily in Iraq, but that it will continue to provide support for the countryagainst ISIL in the form of defense consultation as well ashumanitarian aid.
