6 Iranian food companies get access to Russian market

Russia has given the green light for six Iranian companies to export food to Russia, the countrys food inspector Rosselkhoznadzor has said. Additional conditions guaranteeing complete safety are yet to be signed.

Two of the companies are poultry and meat producers and the other four are dairy products producers (including cheese). The companies will be allowed to start deliveries only after Irans Veterinary Service signs an additional number of protocols on safety conditions due to concerns about bird influenza, Newcastle disease and murrain in the country, Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement on Tuesday.

Theres nothing new in the request for food safety guarantees, its common practice in Russia for all food suppliers, Rosselkhoznadzors press secretary, Yulia Melano, told RIA Novosti. She added two additional protocols have to be signed in the near future.

The permission comes at a time when exports of meat, fish, dairy products, fruit and vegetables from the EU, US, Canada, Australia and Japan are banned. Also, Iran is expected to see some trade relief this summer after it signs a landmark final deal with the P5+1 powers (China, France, Russia, UK, US and Germany) on its nuclear program.
