Iran's liquefied gas exports to hit record high this year

TEHRAN (Tasnim) The Iranian Gas Commercial Company (IGCC) announced that the country's exports of liquefied gas will hit a record high in the current Iranian year (which began on March 21).

"According to schedule, the IGCC should double the exports of liquefied gas," IGCC Managing Director Mohammad Ali Barati told the Tasnim News Agency.

He further pointed to the liquefied gas produced at phases 5 and 6 of the South Pars gas field, and said it is exported to India, China, Pakistan, Iraq and some other neighboring countries.

The South Pars gas field is one of the largest independent gas reservoirs in the world lying on the territorial border between Iran and the Persian Gulf State of Qatar. It is one of the country's main energy resources.

This gas field covers an area of 9700 square kilometers, of which 3700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

In its Statistical Review of World Energy released in June 2014, the BP classed Iran as the world's top gas reserves holder with 33.8 trillion cubic meters.
