Tehran, June 28, The Iran Project - The chairman of Tehran Islamic seminaries council says given the improper physical and moral conditions of stadiums for women, their presence in sports arenas is not to the interest of society.
The chairman of Tehran Islamic seminaries council Ayatollah Ali-Akbar Rashad said womens presence in sports arenas is not forbidden in itself, but as there is no proper physical and moral conditions in stadiums, their presence is not to the interest of society and women themselves.
Ayatollah Rashad added if we could build stadiums with proper security, moral and physical conditions, women would be allowed to attend sporting events.
The issue of Iranian womens presence in sports stadiums has hotly been debated since last year that Iranian women prevented from attending volleyball matches in the stadium.
Although Irans vice president for women and family affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, made a great effort for womens entry into sporting arenas, some conservative groups blocked her attempts to let women watch 2015 FIVB volleyball World League in Tehran.
