Envoy: West realizes ineffectiveness of sanctions against Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ambassador to Paris Ali Ahani underlined that the western countries have realized ineffectiveness of their sanctions against Iran.

"Fortunately the West has come to realize that the weapon of sanctions has not been effective and has been forced to change its approach and recognize Iran's legitimate rights," Ahani told reporters on Tuesday.

The Iranian envoy, meantime, voiced optimism about the trend of the nuclear talks, and said, "Since the Lausanne statement all sides have endeavored to pave the way for striking a final agreement, because this agreement is important to both sides."

He noted that Iran believes in a good and fair agreement, and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always believed in a fair solution based on dialogue and diplomacy."

After arriving in Vienna on Tuesday, the Iranian foreign minister reminded the high sensitivity of Tehran and the world powers' last-ditch efforts to reach a final nuclear deal, and said his country wants a fair and balanced agreement."The talks have arrived at a highly sensitive stage," Zarif told reporters.

Asked about the presence of Salehi in this round of nuclear talks with the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany), he said given Salehi's health conditions after his recent medical surgery, his presence "indicates Iran's seriousness in the negotiations".

Stressing that the talks are "certainly progressing", Zarif said, "A sustainable agreement needs political resolve. Tehran will accept a fair and balanced agreement."

"The other side knows that a good agreement cannot be reached without accepting Iran's rights," he added.
