Baghdad, July 28, IRNA - Heads of Iraq's executive and legislative branches in separate meetings with the visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday welcomed the nuclear agreement between Tehran and P5+1 group of world powers.
Following the joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Jaafari, Zarif met President Fuad Masum, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and Parliament Speaker
Salim al-Jabouri.
The Iraqi leadership believed the agreement is in the interest of the regional countries and congratulated Iran over the achievement.
In the meetings, both sides discussed expansion of bilateral ties, as well as major regional and global issues.
According to a Foreign Ministry press release, Premier al-Abadi hailed Iran's achievement as the success of entire region and said certain regional countries have adoped unconstructive policies.
'The nuclear deal proved that allegations against Iran are baseless. It will deny ill-wishers from their excuses,' the Iraqi prime miniter said.
Zarif thanked the positive stand of the people and government of the neighboring Iraq regarding bilateral and regional issues and said, 'Settlement of the nuclear problem is in the interest of Iraq and all regional countries.'
'We tell our regional friends that there is nothing to worry about in this regard.'
He also urged the neighboring countries to focus on the joint threats including the Daesh terrorist group.
Zarif arrived in Iraq late on Sunday after visiting Kuwait and Qatar. In Iraq, he started his visit with meeting Iraqi ulema in religious cities of Karbal and Najaf.
