Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said that stable relations between Iran and Italy led to the establishment of a bilateral commission on economic issues, holding annual meetings between the foreign ministries.

ROME (Sputnik) � Rome and Tehran will establish a joint commission on bilateral economic relations, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the Italian minister arrived in Tehran to secure closer ties with Iran after a nuclear agreement with world powers was successfully reached in July.

According to Gentiloni, stable relations between two countries led to the establishment of a bilateral commission on economic issues, holding annual meetings between the foreign ministries.

He added that cooperation will target various industries, including energy, food technology and tourism.

"The opportunities for expansion of cooperation aimed at stability in the region are opening up [in Iran], as well as opportunities for doing business," Gentiloni said, as quoted by the askanews agency.

Gentiloni added that the nuclear deal may help resolve regional issues, including the Syrian conflict.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group, comprising China, France, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, reached an agreement to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the easing of sanctions against the country, including its energy sector.
