US Jews oppose Israel's stand on Iran nuclear accord: Scholar

Amajority of American Jews support the historic nuclear agreement with Iran despite fierce opposition from the Zionist lobby, says an American scholar.

Kevin Barrett, a founding member of the Muslim Jewish Christian Alliance, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday when asked about a letter by 340 American rabbis to US lawmakers asking them to approve the July 14 accord between Iran and the P5+1 group.

"We encourage the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives to endorse this agreement," the rabbis said in the letter distributed by Ameinu, a progressive charitable Jewish organization.

Barrett said the fact that hundreds of rabbis tell us the exact opposite of Israels stance on the nuclear agreement shows that this is not a kind of unanimous movement by American Jews to try to destroy this breakthrough agreement with Iran.

Rather, it is the extremist Likudnik neoconservatives associated with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and the other folks who launched the phony war on terror with their series of false-flag attacks including the 9/11 and the others, he added.

"The vast majority of the American Jews are in fact supporters of President Obama and the polls show that this impression that AIPAC and the organized Jewish lobby represent American Jews on this Iran agreement is erroneous, Barrett noted.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the biggest pro-Israel lobby group in the US, is spending millions of dollars to launch TV ads in over 35 states and deploying hundreds of lobbyists on Capitol Hill to try to convince lawmakers to vote against the nuclear agreement.

Barrett said the agreement will apparently serve as a kind of recognition of the legitimacy of Iran which has been terribly sanctioned by the US and its European allies.

The West has been trying to roll back the Islamic Revolution and destroy the Islamic Republic and ensure some kind of regime change that would essentially bring back the regime more like the Shah, he observed.
