“Muhammad (S)” rules Iranian box office

Tehran, Sept 26, IRNA – “Muhammad (S), the Messenger of God”, renowned Iranian director Majid Majidi’s latest film about the Prophet of Islam (S), has jumped into the lead in Iran with box office receipts totaling 70 billion rials (about $2 million) since its release a month ago.

The film is currently on screen at Tehran’s 45 movie theaters and cinemas, and at cultural centers in 88 other Iranian cities, film distributor Mohammadreza Saberi said in a press release on Friday.

“Several movie theaters in the cultural centers of remote Iranian towns, equipped by Mostazafan Foundation to screen ‘Muhammad(S)’, will join the screening program over the next few days,” he added.

Saberi also said that with the beginning of the academic and the school year (September 23), the box-office receipt will increase, Tehran Times reported.
The film has been a box-office hit in Iranian movie theaters since its premiere in the country on August 27.

Iranian filmmaker Alireza Raisian’s “Time to Love” comes next at the box office with over 20 billion rials (about $600,000) and Hatef Alimardani’s “Dying in September” stands third with over 16 billion rials (about $472,000).
