Iran, Armenia museums sign MoU

TEHRAN, Sep. 28 (MNA) Iran and Armenia International Council of Museums (ICOM) signed a memorandum on joint cooperation on the sidelines of Persepolis photo exhibition in Yerevan.

The MoU was signed by Head of Iran's ICOM (International Council of Museums) as well as Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Center Seyed Mohammad Beheshti, and Head of Armenian ICOM Mr. Gorjian.

Under the MoU, the two sides will hold exhibitions and training courses related to cultural heritage of Both Iran and Armenia.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition which coincided with International Museum Day in Europe, Beheshti highlighted the deep historical background of Iran and Armenia and its role in expanding bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of culture.

He added that Persepolis is a common heritage of both countries; this exhibition belongs to Iran as much as it belongs to Armenia, he said.

Persepolis photo exhibition opened in Armenia on Saturday on the occasion of International Museum Day in Europe and was attended by a number of Iranian cultural officials at Erebuni Fortress, Yerevan, Armenia.

The works on display indicates the impacts of Urartian art on Persepolis. The pictures include images pertaining to Armenian tribes which are available in Apadana.
It is said that Armenians were the third group bringing gifts to Persepolis on the occasion of the Persian New Year Norouz. The three-person group presented a horse with tied tail and a crock with an eagle handle to Persepolis.
