TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Ajay Sharma, an Indian-origin diplomat who was in charge of the British embassy in Tehran, said at the end of his mission that Iran-Britain relations are on the right track.
Sharma used to serve as a non-resident charge daffaires, but was later appointed to be in charge of the British embassy, after it reopened in August.
The British diplomat is leaving Iran for Qatar, where he is going to assume his new post as an ambassador.
In a Sunday post in his Twitter account, Sharma said he is sad to leave Iran.
He also hailed it as a privilege to be involved in the process of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) that concluded with a comprehensive deal, and the reopening of the British embassy in Tehran.
The outgoing diplomat bade farewell in Persian to Iran, saying Khoda Hafez.
The British embassy in Iran reopened on August 23 after a 4-year closure.
Britains Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond attended a ceremony in Tehran to mark the reopening. It was the first visit by a British foreign secretary to Iran since 2003.
Simultaneously, Irans embassy in London also reopened.
The thaw in Iran-Britain relations follows finalization of a landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 on July 14.
