Tehran, Nov 22, IRNA - Judiciary Spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said on Sunday that the court has issued a verdict on Jason Rezaeian but it has not been officially acknowledged to him.
Speaking to reporters in his 81st news conference for the case, he said Rezaeian has been sentenced to prison term on espionage charges but details of the verdict is to be revealed in the future.
Rezaian is an American citizen of Iranian origin. Rezaian was arrested in Tehran more than a year ago. US officials have called on Iran to free Rezaian, as well as three other Americans who are in custody for espionage charges.
Before he was arrested and charged with spying, Rezaian had been the Washington Post's Tehran bureau chief since 2012. He has dual Iranian and US citizenship.
After nine months of speculation, it was made public on April 20, 2015 that Iranian officials have indicted Rezaian on four charges, including espionage and 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.'
Rezaian's trial began on May 26, 2015. Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani during an IPU Conference in US and President Hassan Rouhani during his UN General Assembly attendance, have proposed his exchange with an Iranian prisoner in US.
