Iran takes back part of its blocked interests from US after 37 years
Tehran, Dec 18, IRNA An informed source with the Center for International Law of the Presidential Office said on Friday that 14 artistic works belonging to Iran were taken back to the country after 37 years as part of its blocked proprietary interests.

On the artistic works, the source said they were works of two well-known American artists which were bought in 1978 by Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, but following the Islamic Revolution and the takeover of the US embassy in Tehran, the US government refrained to deliver them to Iran.

The source went on to say that the 1981 Algeria Claims Settlement Declaration mandates the US government to give back all the Iranian proprietary, including the mentioned artistic works.

However, he noted that in defiance of the declaration, Washington continued to refuse to give back the artistic works.

The source said that Iran filed a complaint at the Hague-based International Court of Justice in 1982 against the US for its ignorance of the Algeria Declaration and its refusal to give back the Iranian propriataries.

The 14 artistic works were first transferred to Amsterdam and once experts from the Ministry of Culture confirmed their genuinity, they were taken to Iran after 37 years, the source said.

He added that Iran will spare no effort to pursue its other complaints at the International Court of Justice.
