Tehran, Jan 3, IRNA Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday that execution of prominent Saudi Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr was an unwise move by the Saudi government.
Addressing a group of officials, Rafsanjani condemned attacks on Saudi Embassy and consulate and said there is a logical and right solution to any issue and extremist moves and attack on diplomatic centers, sabotage and violence will make it more difficult to tackle regional crises.
He said the wise people and dignitaries of the world have times and again warned the Saudi rulers that Sheikh Nimr enjoyed strong popular backing.
He added that popular demonstrations and rallies in many countries, especially Pakistan, are signs of popularity enjoyed by the sheikh among world Muslims.
